PERSONAL TRAITS

Menarche

When a girl first gets her period, it is called “”menarche””. It characteristically occurs about two years after her breasts begin to develop and she begins to get pubic hair. Depending on the age at which they begin their pubertal development, girls may get their first period (menarche) between the ages of 9 and 16.

The first menstruation symbolizes a state of maturity characterized by the body´s preparation for reproduction and a more mature sense of oneself and one´s sexuality.

Menstruation or the period is the normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of the menstrual cycle in women. Every month, her body prepares for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus, or womb, sheds its lining. The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus. It passes out of the body through the vagina.
