Endometrial cancer is cancer that arises from the endometrium (the lining of the uterus or womb).
The body of the uterus has 2 main layers: The inner layer or lining is called the endometrium. The outer layer of muscle is known as the myometrium. This thick layer of muscle is needed to push the baby out during birth.
Endometrial cancer begins in the layer of cells that form the lining (endometrium) of the uterus. The majority of endometrial tumors are cancers of the glands cells in the endometrium; it is sometimes called endometrial adenocarcinoma. Other less common types include adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation.
