Bupropion in smoking cessation (Efficacy)

Bupropion is an antidepressant drug used in smoking cessation. The presence of polymorphisms in the dopamine D2 receptor gene may condition its efficacy in smoking cessation.

Bupropion belongs to a class of medications known as antidepressants that increase a certain type of brain activity.

Bupropion is used in the treatment of depression in patients with bipolar disorder, ADHD (attention deficit and hyperactivity syndrome) and seasonal affective disorder. It is also used as an aid to quit smoking.
